“Cosplay like any artistic medium takes practice. Don’t be discouraged by looking at other people. All that matters is that you’re having a good time.”

Laura is an accountant from the Midwest who enjoys sewing, drawing, video games, anime and Japanese fashion. If you see her in costume at a convention, don’t hesitate to come say hi!

How long have you been doing cosplay?

I’ve been cosplaying in varying capacities for about 10 years now. I first got into it when I was in high school and I started with cosplaying from anime, which I still do today!

Who is your favorite Lore Olympus character to cosplay?

My favorite Lore Olympus character to cosplay as is Hera! She has such an eye for fashion, literally everything she wears is iconic. Also I just really love her design in general, so being able to bring her life in my own way is a lot of fun!

Tell us your Lore Olympus story.

I’ve always had a love a classic studies and especially the Ancient Greek civilization. So, when I heard from various friends about it, I was definitely interested! What has kept me here is series itself, of course. But also certain members of the community have really kept me interested in not just the series, but the fandom as a whole.

What is the most memorable cosplay?

The cosplay I’m most proud of is probably my Prince Sidon cosplay. It was one I took from a concept and made nearly everything for it, including the feather on his head. And then when it was finished, I entered it and won my division in a cosplay competition.

What other fandoms are you in? What’s special about the Lore Olympus fandom?

I’m a big Disney fan as well as member of various anime/manga fandoms, but the Lore Olympus fandom is very special. Everyone is so supportive of each other and so creative with all the amazing things they make everyday.

If you could body snatch one LO character for a day, who would it be?

I think I’d like to be Amphritrite. All the perks of being queen, a wonderful husband in Poseidon and I could experience breathing underwater! Though I’d be tempted by Queen Persephone as well for similar reasons!

What does cosplay mean to you?

Cosplay is a way for me to express myself by bringing characters I love to life. It’s a good way for me to step out of my life’s problems for a bit and just have fun being someone I love.

Any advice for a new cosplayer out there?

The two biggest things I recommend are being who you want and doing research. Cosplay like any artistic medium takes practice. Don’t be discouraged by looking at other people, all that matters is that you’re having a good time.

Just for fun: Who did you get on the Hades’ dog character quiz?

I got Fudge, which I totally agree with!
