God of Love

Nickname(s): Baby Bear

Age: Physically in 20’s

Lives In: Olympus

Background

Eros first appeared in Episode 4. At the request of his mother, Aphrodite, Eros got Persephone drunk and placed her inside Hades’ car. Before doing so, he expressed his discomfort about his mother’s intentions.

As the son of the gods of war and beauty, Eros is a combination of his parents’ passionate and fierce natures. He becomes a fast friend and protector of Persephone. He is the proud older brother to the other winged gods of love and is often spending time with them while his parents are in the Mortal Realm. Eros is a total Mama’s boy and cares for his father as much as he is embarrassed by him

Against his mother’s directive and Olympian law, Eros falls in love with a mortal, Psyche, and brings her to live with him in secret. When she betrays him, he commits an act of wrath, killing 300 mortals before being stopped.

Appearance

Eros takes after his father, Ares, in muscular frame and height. He has soft curly hair that swoops up in front. Like his mother Aphrodite, he has a beauty mark near his left eye. He also has his father’s mischievous smirk. His overall coloring is magenta, a shade slightly similar to Persephone. He can make his light pink feather wings appear and disappear at will.

Eros is very fashionable and wears sweaters and polos that accentuate his best assets, which is all of him.

Family

Eros acts as a parental figure towards Ares, even sternly tells him to be on his “best behavior” around Persephone. His relationship with Aphrodite also has more of a friendship dynamic as opposed to mother and son.

Eros has 7 younger siblings: Agape, Philia, Storge, Ludus, Philautia, Pragma, and Mania.

Relationships

psyche/ampelus

Eros met Psyche in the Mortal Realm, when his mother asked him to make her fall in love with a hideous beast. On his way, he picks up a small pig, which he eventually names “Sweet Pea.”

However, Eros falls in love with the beautiful Psyche, and whisks her away into Olympus on the night of her wedding. He told his mother that he wanted an apartment, with the sole intention of hiding Psyche. Things fell apart when Psyche attempted to kill him after being manipulated by her sisters.

Eros admits that he still loves Psyche. In Episode 68, he tells Persephone that it was time to find her.

In Season 2, Eros is often seen hanging out with her, despite being disguised as a nymph named Ampelus.

persephone

Eros went over to Artemis’ house to apologize for what he did to Persephone. They eventually became good friends. He comforts Persephone in her time of need, invites her to his home, and tells her to take care of her mental health. When Apollo confronted Persephone, Eros interfered and shot various warning arrows.

In Episode 154, Eros confides in Ampelus that he values Persephone’s trust very much.

Skills & Abilities

Eros and Aphrodite can control the sexual desires of those who aren’t virgins. But Hera forbade them to use those powers on anyone after Zeus blamed them for his affairs.

He can sense crushes and confessions of feelings.

By touch, Eros can also sense when someone is no longer a virgin. This ability allows him to become a confidante and closer friend to Persephone.

Eros has the power of flight and can materialize his bow and arrows.

“I just happen to be the pinnacle of emotional intelligence.”

— Eros, Episode 68

Trivia & Commentary

from lo canon / observation

from mythology

  • Eros’ Roman name is “Cupid” or “Amor”, which translates to love.

  • Eros’ parentage is varied in myths. While he is famously known as the son of Aphrodite, in some myths he had existed before the gods, and was one of the fundamental causes of the birth of the world. Thus, there were three versions of Eros: a) the Eros of ancient cosmogonies, b) the Eros of philosophers, and c) the Eros whom many are familiar with the myths.
