“Don’t get intimidated by those who dedicate their lives to this craft… It’ll still be good and as long as you’re having safe fun that’s what matters.”

How long have you been doing cosplay?

I have been cosplaying since January of 2014, but I didn’t really get serious about improving it until 2018. I started because I was desperate for a safe place where I could be openly trans. Cosplay and the cosplay community gave that to me.

Who is your favorite Lore Olympus character to cosplay?

Right now, I think it’s Eros and Hermes! It’s so much fun to be their characters and I love getting to bring them to life.

What is the most memorable cosplay?

Viktor from Yuri On Ice is the love of my life. I’ve cosplayed him more times than I can count, and actually plan to bring him back soon.

Tell us your Lore Olympus story.

I was feeling really burnt out on cosplay. Nothing seemed to bring me any joy and I was inches away from quitting. Dae(@daelily), my partner, found Lore Olympus and binged it all in one night. They told me I needed to read it. Likewise, I binged it all in one night. I was captivated by the interesting designs and fresh characters. I could feel my creativity begin to flow again!

What other fandoms are you in? What’s special about the Lore Olympus fandom?

Sailor Moon, My Hero Academia, Yuri On Ice and so many others are a part of my fandom world. What makes Lore Olympus different from the rest is the people. When Dae and I participated in our first Lore Olympus shoot at Katsucon, we were enamored by how nice and fun everyone was. It’s honestly the best fandom we have ever been a part of.

If you could body snatch one LO character for a day, who would it be?

Hermes! That boy is ripped and he has godly (pun intended) hair.

What does cosplay mean to you?

Cosplay at the end of the day is my hobby- an expensive hobby- but a hobby. It’s my bit of fun at the end of a hectic day. It also is how I met my partner and a majority of my friends.

Any advice for a new cosplayer out there?

Don’t get intimidated by those who dedicate their lives to this craft. We often see people who don’t care much at all- or people who are 110% invested in all things cosplay. You can go 50%. You can just cosplay from home; you can buy eBay wigs;  you can cosplay with clothes from the thrift store. It’ll still be good and as long as you’re having safe fun that’s what matters. Don’t get caught up in the elitism.

Just for fun: Who did you get on the Hades’ dog character quiz?
